Red Deer Tech & Code is a free, volunteer-run meetup for anyone in and around Red Deer who is into technology, programming, making things or building a business. There is nothing for sale here. It is peers over beers.

Why this exists

I’m Jeff, formerly of Sask, AB, BC and now in Red Deer. Having been involved in businesses, startups and tech communities in several regions, I know how much a strong local community helps. It is easier than ever to work in tech and create tech from anywhere — so why not from where you are now?

Big cities offer density of peers. A smaller city has to build it deliberately. That is all this is: a room, a few regulars, and an open door.

A few guidelines

1. Folks have all kinds of skill levels, interests and experiences. Accept all, learn where you can, and help where you can.
2. Tech and startups are inclusive. As the old joke says, nobody cares if you are a dog on the internet. Please be open to everyone.
3. This is not a place about selling things. It is about a community.

What we talk about

Ruby on Rails, PHP, JavaScript / Node / React / Vue, DotNet and VBA; DevOps and cloud (Azure, AWS, DigitalOcean); product and project management; MS SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL and TimescaleDB; connectivity, ChatGPT, Terraform and skills building. And plenty that is not on any list.
