Learning to code in Central Alberta

You can learn to code from a small city in Alberta, for free, with a job at the end of it if you are patient. I have watched people here do it. Here is the honest version of how.

Start smaller than you think

Pick one language and one small, real thing to build. HTML, CSS and JavaScript are the obvious first choice because everything runs in a browser and you can see your work immediately. Python is a fine alternative if data, automation or scripting is what interests you. Do not collect five tutorials; finish one small project and change it until it is yours.

A boring, working loop

• Learn a little — one concept at a time, from one source.
• Type it yourself — do not copy-paste. Break it, fix it, watch what happens.
• Build something — even a tiny tool you personally want.
• Show someone — bring it to a meetup and ask what is wrong with it.
